marine planning

Marine planning plays a critical role in balancing the needs of the fishing industry and ensuring that marine ecosystems remain healthy and resilient.

The Cornish Fish Producers Organisation actively engages in discussions and consultations surrounding marine plans, representing the interests of our members in decisions that impact access to fishing grounds, sustainable quotas, and long-term resource management.

We work closely with DEFRA, MMO and The Crown Estate to advocate for policies that strike a balance between environmental sustainability and longevity of the fishing industry. By participating in marine spatial planning processes, the CFPO ensures that our members’ needs are considered when decisions are made about marine conservation zones, offshore wind developments, and licensing requirements. Through our involvement, we aim to safeguard national food security by ensuring fair access to fishing grounds whilst protecting the marine environment for future generations.

As marine planning evolves, the CFPO continues to provide updates and guidance to our members on new developments, consultations, and policy changes. We encourage all our members to stay engaged in the process, as their input is vital in shaping the future of fishing in Cornish waters.
